10 characteristics of a PSYCHOPATH

When you hear the word "psychopath", you most likely remember dangerous types from crime dramas and numerous Hollywood movies. However, we meet such people in the real world too, although this deviation is very rare - only 1% of the population of Earth has it.

10 characteristics of a psychopath

Key characteristics to identify a Psychopath

  1. They lack some feelings. Psychopaths are very different from other people because they lack feelings like empathy, trust, and forgiveness. They also know very well how to use another person's vulnerability. They hurt other people without even thinking.
  2. They are manipulative. These people are off the charts in terms of manipulations. Other people manipulate another person unknowingly or for some benefit, while psychopaths do it just because they enjoy the process itself.
  3. They need emotion. Psychopaths constantly need a thrill in their lives. They are bored. They may offend other people or even do something very bad while seeking such emotions. They are attracted to stress. The best solution for them is extreme sports.
  4. They tend to bully. The first signs of bullying can be noticed at school. Psychopaths are often the ones who initiate bullying. After they grow up, they start attacking their colleagues or neighbors. Soft people who cannot defend themselves are the usual victims of psychopaths. Psychopaths also bully people they envy.
  5. They love power. Power is his dream. All psychopaths want it. And it's not just power. It is an undivided parasitic authority. They love it when they control everyone and everything, hiring and firing people only for what they want, not objective facts.

  6. They are unaware of their actions. Psychopaths are often inconsistent about their actions. They think that the things they want are much more important than what other people want. And you can never make them answer for their mistakes or failures. They will blame you for their own mistakes to stress you out.
  7. They are narcissistic. Such people are narcissistic in a very bad way. They are sure that they are superior to others who do not care. And more often this is just an illusion. However, if a psychopath is really talented, they can achieve incredible results.
  8. They are liars. Lying is very simple for such people. They are not just two faces, they have many faces. In most cases, your actions do not match your words. They lie to everyone for no good reason, and they don't even try to hide it.
  9. They can be charming. Psychopaths can be extremely charming. Many people do not realize that this is a hoax. They flatter each other very well and can deliver an amazing 30 minute speech that everyone will listen with interest. But don't expect a candid conversation.
  10. They break rules. Such people think that the rules of behavior, morality and laws are unnecessary regulations. They don't understand the point of these regulations, so they steal, break driving rules, and cheat other people without feeling guilty. His favorite thing to do is set up other people.

Differences between Psychopath and Sociopath

You may have heard people call someone else a "psycho" or "sociopath." But what do those words really mean?

You will not find the definitions in the official mental health manual, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Doctors do not officially diagnose people as psychopaths or sociopaths. Instead, they use a different term: antisocial personality disorder.

Most experts believe that psychopaths and sociopaths share a similar set of traits. People like this have a poor internal sense of right and wrong. They also don't seem to understand or share another person's feelings. But there are also some differences.

Do they have a conscience?

A key difference between a psychopath and a sociopath is whether they have a conscience, the little voice within that lets us know when we're doing something wrong.

A psychopath has no conscience. If he lies to you so he can steal your money, he won't feel any moral qualms, even though he may. You can watch others and then act the way they do so you don't "get found out," Tompkins says.

A sociopath typically has a conscience, but it is weak. You may know that taking your money is wrong and you may feel guilty or remorseful, but that won't stop your behavior.

Both lack empathy, the ability to step into another person's shoes and understand how they feel. But a psychopath has less respect for others. Someone with this type of personality sees others as objects that they can use for their own benefit.

They are not always violent

In movies and TV shows, psychopaths and sociopaths are often the villains who kill or torture innocent people. In real life, some people with antisocial personality disorder can be violent, but most are not. Instead, they use manipulation and reckless behavior to get what they want.

Final comment

If you recognize some of these traits in a family member or co-worker, you may be tempted to think that you are living or working with a psychopath or sociopath. But just because a person is mean or selfish, it doesn't necessarily mean they have a disorder.
